The year 2008 has been proclaimed the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue" (EYID) by the European Parliament. Intercultural dialogue has been defined as "an open and respectful exchange of views between individuals and groups belonging to different cultures that leads to a deeper understanding of the other's world perception".

The aim is to promote the awareness of people to consider themselves as European citizens and to be a part of European multicultural environment.

We are seeking to encourage more creative approaches to communicate the concept Intercultural Dialogue based on activities and experiences across Europe. Arts is a strong vehicle for engaging people.

We would like to organise the "INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE WITHOUT WORDS!" (Photos exhibition) all over Europe.

Europe is there for ALL its citizens. The European Commission and SALTO Cultural Diversity Resource Centre work together to ensure that the EU's cultural diversity is understood, respected and promoted. This idea will involve all those who have an interest in Intercultural Dialogue to use photographs in order to promote Cultural Diversity in Europe.

We will collect the best pictures from different sources across Europe and organise the same exhibition with about 32 Photos in different countries at the same time. Up till now, some National Agencies for Youth in Action Programme have already confirmed their interest in hosting the exhibition between October and November 2008. During the weeks people can see an exhibition in a public space (National agency office, organisations, pub, public office...) For us it will be great if each photo could represent different cultures together. We would like to see in your pictures that diverse people and views from different countries can live together in a multicultural Europe...

SALTO Cultural Diversity Resource Centre will be responsible for the whole process (promoting the project, collecting, selecting, printing the pictures....)


How to get involved...
We'd like to know if you have photos about intercultural Dialogue we could use in our European photos exhibition and SALTO Cultural Diversity materials. Please send your pictures to: sendyourphotos@salto-youth.net by 5th of September.

Photos exhibition - Intercultural Dialogue without words!
1. Title: "Intercultural Dialogue without words!"
2. Participants: All people can participate!
3. Support: You need to send no more than 5 pictures (20x30cm) in digital format with the best quality (max 1MB). We only accept original pictures.
4. Picture: you need to complet each picture, saved in PDF format and send it to us. Please write your name, address, telephone (with country code), e-mail, age and a sentence (maximum 5 lines) to explain your picture.
5. Exhibition: we will organize one exhibition for each Youth in Action Programme Countries.The exhibition will take place between October and December 2008 for 31 different European countries.
6. Selection: One international group of people from SALTO Cultural Diversity with experience in Intercultural Dialogue select the photos for your European Exhibition.
